Bangor University has almost 90,000 alumni living all over the world. Whether you’re a former student of Bangor University, University College of North Wales, Coleg Normal, St Mary’s College or the University of Wales, Bangor, the Development and Alumni Relations team is here to help you stay in touch with each other and your alma mater.

We send out regular e-newsletters to keep you up-to-date with the latest news from the University and organise reunions and events for our former students all over the world. We can help to reconnect you with lost friends and assist you in planning your own reunions too. The team also support alumni who want to give back to their University through activities such as giving career advice to current students or talking to prospective students at Open Days.

A wide range of courses 

Our courses will help to set you on the right path for a successful career. 

You can choose to study from courses across the sciences, arts, business, law and humanities. We have a variety of learning pathways, including degree apprenticeships and foundation degrees and you can combine your love of two different subjects by opting for a joint honours degree.  

Every new undergraduate student can gain work experience as part of their degree. This can range from a two-week placement to a year out between Years 2 and 3 of your degree. 

Internships

Bangor University runs undergraduate and postgraduate internship schemes twice a year, which allow students to work in a professional environment while learning relevant skills and earning money.
There is a wide range of internships you can get involved in, from medical research to marketing and promotion. Internships offer valuable experience in a professional work place.

Bangor Employability Award (BEA)

The Bangor Employability Award enables students to build on their transferable skills through the recognition of activities they become involved in during their university life. Students can gain points towards the Award through extra-curricular activities such as volunteering, attending workshops or actively participating in the Students’ Union’s clubs and societies.

The Award is open to everyone and taking part in the scheme can make a major difference to your performance in the graduate job market.

Placement Year

The placement year provides you with a fantastic opportunity to broaden your horizons and develop valuable skills and contacts through working with a self-sourced organisation relevant to your degree subject.

You will be expected to find and arrange a suitable placement to complement your degree, and will be fully supported throughout by a dedicated member of staff at your academic School and the University’s Skills and Employability Services.

Previous and current students have worked with a wide variety of placement providers, ranging from private companies to educational organizations, charities, government authorities and non-governmental organizations.Students have been placed on work experience with hosts such as Santander Bank, Siemens Healthineers, Coutts, Venue Cymru, WRU, BBC Cymru, Zip World and Gen2.

Our students who have undertaken a placement year have highlighted how the experience has helped them to develop invaluable networks, confidence and life experience as well as subject knowledge and skills that have boosted their employability.

Please note: From 2021/22 the fee will be set at £1,350 for all placement, sandwich and international years.
